Uluwatu, Bali — Where to Stay, Surf, and Unwind

Perched on Bali’s southernmost peninsula, Uluwatu is where limestone cliffs meet some of the best surf on the island. It’s quieter and more laid-back than Canggu or Seminyak, but no less alive — a place built around sunset beers at a cliffside beach club, world-class waves, and a temple that watches over it all.

Uluwatu draws two kinds of travelers: surfers chasing the reef breaks at Padang Padang, Suluban, and Bingin, and everyone else who just wants a slower pace with a spectacular view. Both find what they’re looking for here.

Things to Do in Uluwatu

Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu): Perched on a 70-meter cliff, this sea temple is one of Bali’s most sacred sites — best visited at sunset for the Kecak fire dance.

Surf Breaks: Padang Padang, Suluban (Blue Point), Bingin, and Impossibles offer some of the most consistent reef breaks in Indonesia, for everyone from beginners to experienced surfers.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK): A massive cultural park home to one of the tallest statues in the world, a short drive from Uluwatu.

Beach Clubs: Cliffside clubs like Single Fin and Sundays Beach Club offer front-row sunset views over the Indian Ocean.

Padang Padang Beach & Suluban Beach: Dramatic cliff-carved beaches, ideal for a swim or just watching the surfers below.
